Why is Fortnite flickering when I play?

We have a couple of things that may help fix this issue:

Update Video Card Drivers

Drivers are the software that tell the hardware how to run. Out-of-date drivers may fail when telling a piece of hardware (like a video card) how to run a specific type of software (like Fortnite). making sure your video card drivers are up to date can solve many video problems.

The following links contain the most up-to-date drivers for each manufacturer:

Performance Mode

This is a mode that puts less strain on your graphics card:

  1. Start Fortnite
  2. Select the Player Profile icon (circle with your current character outfit) in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings (gear icon).
  4. Select Video (monitor icon).
  5. Find the Display section.
  6. Change the Rendering Mode to Performance - Lower Graphical Fidelity.

Performance Mode Command Line

Using a command line when launching Fortnite will force the game into performance mode:

  1. Start Epic Game Launcher.
  2. Select the Player Profile icon (circle with the first character of your user name) in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Expand Fortnite (click the arrow next to Fortnite).
  5. Check the Additional Command Line box.
  6. Type: -FeatureLevelEs31
  7. Start Fortnite

Force DirectX 11

If all else fails you can try forcing DirectX 11:

  1. Start Epic Game Launcher.
  2. Select the Player Profile icon (circle with the first character of your user name) in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Expand Fortnite (click the arrow next to Fortnite).
  5. Check the Additional Command Line box.
  6. Type -d3d11
  7. Launch Fortnite.
