Why do I get an installation error when I close Fortnite?

This can be caused by corrupt files or a problem with the hard drive.

Verify the game files

Verifying the integrity of your game files will check the files on your computer to ensure they are not damaged or corrupted. If some files are different, they'll be changed or repaired. Your saved data will not be affected.

To verify game files on the Epic Game Launcher:

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Find the game in your Epic Games Library.
  3. Click the three dots on the right side of the game line.
  4. Select Manage.
  5. Click the Verify button.
  6. Wait for validation to complete.
It may take a while to verify all your files.

If that did not help try installing the game to another drive.

Reinstall on Epic Games Launcher

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Select Library.
  3. Find your game.
  4. Click the meatball menu (...) next to the game.
  5. Select Uninstall.
  6. Once uninstalled, click on the game tile to install the game.
  7. When asked where to install, select a different drive.
