How do I identify and disable a proxy server so I can connect to the Epic Games Servers?

Proxy servers often cause issues trying to use our services. Below are steps to identify if you’re using a proxy and how to disable it.

Identify if you’re running a proxy

There are two ways to determine if you’re using a proxy or not.

Proxy Settings

1. Click on Start in the bottom left corner.
2. Type Proxy Settings.
3. Select Proxy Settings (System Settings), a new window will open.
4. Under Manual Proxy Setup, if this is turned ON you’re running a proxy server.

Environment Variables

1. Click on Start in the bottom left corner.
2. Type Environment Variables, a new window will open.
3. Select Edit the system environment variables.
4. Look for http_proxy, if you locate it you’re running a proxy server.

Disabling a proxy server

Proxy Settings

1. Click on Start.
2. Type Proxy Settings.
3. Select Proxy Settings (System Settings).
4. Under Manual Proxy Setup, set this to OFF.

Environment Variables

1. Click on Start.
2. Type Environment Variables.
3. Select Edit the system environment variables.
4. Look for http_proxy and click on it.
5. Click on Delete.
6. Click OK.

Using the Command Prompt

If you don't see a proxy setup in your Windows settings you can use the Command Prompt to disable any proxies you may have:

1. Click Start.
2. Type cmd.
3. Right-click and select Run as administrator.
4. In the Command Prompt, type netsh winhttp reset proxy and press Enter.
